Another quilt block

This is another quilt block we came across while in Tennessee. This time on an old, run down home.

Looking back

This is taken from below the mill wheel in yesterday's post. That water is ice cold, so cold that rainbow trout live there. A few years ago, there were several over a foot long, but this past weekend we did not see a single big one. However, Roger finally spotted one about 10 inches in length and Sarah seen several smaller ones on down the way in another little bitty stream. They blend so well against the rocky bottom that I would never have seen it.

Quilt crib???

Normally, these paintings of quilt blocks are put on barns, but this one is on what I assume is a corn crib. I have seen this block before, but I do not remember the name of it.

Barn Charm Entry--I hope

If you see this and it is not entered, will you please tell Tricia of Tricia's Barn Charm Meme here.....I am getting this ready ahead of time and have some things to attend to and may not be able to get on enter it. However, I will definitely view everyone's entry soon as I get the chance.

This is a picture from the archives and has been published before, or one very similar to it. This barn sits back off the road. To me it looks huge, and I would love to know what that roof is sticking up over the top of it...probably an old silo. Still, I would like to see it.

Prelude to Barn Charm....

I like this shot, but just isn't good enough for Barn Charm...maybe it would have been if I had added some kind of texture. But I am want to leave it as is...

Dogwood blossom time

We had hail the other night, and most blooms on my dogwood only have two petals left...and the ones that have four, are deformed. I was trying to get a shot where they looked half normal and this was about the best I could do.

From Billie Creek Village.....

This is from a few years back...Billie Creek Village is just east of Rockville in Parke County, Indiana.

Apples....

A scene from the past...it brings back a lot of good memories just to look at this.

2010 Shots for Barn Charm

Almost since the beginning of the Barn Charm meme, I have meant to share these photos, but either I have a recent photo I want to share, or else I forget about these. We were coming home from Shipshewana, a different route to the one taken to get there, and this place came into view.
I still do not know the real history of the place....read here to find what I wrote about it back then. These photos are at the bottom of the page, but both posts are about it as they belong together...they are part of the same property.
Wouldn't this make a fine barn to fix up and live in??? I would love to have had a look around inside this place and to have had someone tell me the history of it all.

So at last, here it is....as my entry for Tricia's Barn Charm.

Remember days like this????

This was taken back the first part of December of last year....just a a little over 4 months ago. I am glad we don't have it now, but I do wonder how long it will be before we are longing for snowy days again.

Almost seeing double...

These two houses are side by side Paris, Illinois...I assume they are built by the same builder, but I wonder if they were built for members of the same family.
I like the wrap-around porch of the second shot better, but I like the way the whole length of the tower shows up better in the first one.
I always wonder how the towers are used and how they are decorated....and they always make me think of fairy tales.

Fields of purple....

I know this is only weeds, at least to most people....but when seen in a field like this henbit is really beautiful. It is a familiar sight around here now...henbit. Though I don't see it in all over fields of this size very often. If I didn't know better, I would have thought it was planted on purpose.

Don't tread on me

Every time I see these horses, and I see their feet, I cannot help but think how painful it would be stepped on by one, let alone kicked.

Washed out...

This is at a scaffolding place, and that place is way out in the country....well, maybe not 'way out' but still a few miles from any town, and the town it is near is not big. Yet the building that these belong to is a pretty big pole barn.....I wonder if they deliver the scaffolding because it would be kind of hard to find.

Anyway, I liked the colored ends shown here, even though the photo was washed out. And I wondered if the colors mean anything.

My Barn Charm entry...

I could not make up my mind which of these to show, so am just going to post them both. Part of what I like about both of them is the shadows playing across them.
I have posted photos of both photos in the past, but didn't like any of them as much as I like these.
These were taken Saturday evening...I am linking them to Tricia's Barn Charm. Come join the fun and share your barn with us.

A favorite shot

I think this is my favorite rooster shot of the ones I have taken...I do wish that hen had looked up but she didn't and I wish that hens head in the lower left was not there but I didn't take the time to edit it out. I think this one is even better when enlarged.

Hey Grandma, what's for supper?

On the way home the other night, out in this pasture were these chickens, and there was a pony and a horse or two. It is just too hard to try to turn and get a picture through the passenger window when I am the driver. I will if there is no other option, but this was a lonely straight stretch of road, so I pulled to the side and got out.

The minute I got out, here came the chickens, and the pony got right up against the fence, plus the horses on the far side started to come. I quickly snapped a couple pics and left because I felt guilty not having anything for them.

Another oldie

I came across this place out in Parke County....I have no idea what it was...on a road leading back to these below. Notice the little slot of an opening to the left of the front door. It really makes me curious.
No trespassing signs were every where, of course.

Ta-daaa!

Here are a couple views of the courthouse as a whole....
It is a fine looking building...I love those tall skinny windows!

Bits & pieces of the Parke County Courthouse

Another local courthouse...one I have only taken drive-bys of prior to this...and none of them successful. I attempted to capture some of the features of this courthouse a week or two ago.
To me, another title of this post could have been Stacked. Seems like one beautiful feature is stacked on top of another.
The doors are beautiful...not overly decorated, but still beautiful.
And the top of the courthouse is a real winner....I always wonder does anyone ever go up to the top.

Kind of washed out

This is at a scaffolding place, and that place is way out in the country....well, maybe not 'way out' but still a few miles from any town, and the town it is near is not big. Yet the building that these belong to is a pretty big pole barn.....I wonder if they deliver the scaffolding because it would be kind of hard to find.

Anyway, I liked the colored ends shown here, even though the photo was washed out. And I wondered if the colors mean anything.

Barn Charm entry....

Notice the lattice like work under the eaves...this is the second barn I have seen this way. I would love to know what all the ventilation was for...was it for hay stored in the loft? Around here, the way the wind blows, I would think it would still allow a lot of rain and snow to get blown in some of the time.
It has some wear, but I think it is still pretty sturdy and I think it is still used. Also, notice the door the ladder leads to, it looks like it has new hinges.
Well, that's my entry for Tricia's Barn Charm meme...I hope if you have a barn that you will join. I love this meme...I have been photographing barns for so long...you can look in my labels on both this and my Pics & Pieces blog, and quickly see that they are a favorite subject for me. I love seeing the barns from different places, and have a special love for the ones with rock foundations. We don't have many of those right around here, so I really enjoy seeing them.

From Rockville, Indiana

For a while now, I have wanted to take the time to stop in Rockville and shoot some of the old buildings. Rockville is the county seat of Parke County, which is the home of The Covered Bridge Festival...
The buildings around the square are so colorful and so beautiful. Every time I see this kind of work, I think of how many hours must have been worked to not only build this, but to keep it painted.

High-rise housing

I saw these birdhouses at a Parke County Amish home almost a couple weeks ago. I always wonder how they get the birdhouses up so high...do they attach them to the post, and then set the post in the ground or just how do they do it?

Another from Paris...

Another house...another untold story. Or maybe many, many stories. I hope someday I go back and it is occupied and fixed up. It would be a beautiful home. The roof looks new, so maybe it is gradually being renovated.
