Treasures

I have been meaning for us to go to the Skinner Farm Museum for a while now...I just found out about it by chance when looking at a list of round barns a while back.  I quickly got on Google Earth to see if it was still there, and it was.  Today was the first time I remembered it when we actually had the time to stop.  For this Tuesday's Treasures, I am showing you a few shots from the Blacksmith's Shop.  Notice the huge bellows there in the corner in the above photo!

This is the another corner...there was no room to walk and get good photos..just had to stand and click.

See that barrel back against the wall?  It is made from a single wooden log....it is too wide to fit through a normal door.  There was no way for Roger to stand beside to just the proportion.

Everywhere we looked, there was more and more.

I hope you enjoyed these photos from the Blacksmiths shop....

Brick kilns

A few years ago, we were on a rambling drive, and were headed home when we came across these kilns.  They are in the northern part of Vermillion county.

Not all were being fired at the time if I am remembering correctly.
I think there were 5 of them, but I am not positive.  The one thing I am positive of is that it was hot there, and the guys there were doing a job I would not want to do.
The head was radiating till we were hot standing 8 or 10 feet away.  I even wonder if you would need a coat in winter time...

Partial view of a barn

An old shot that has never been posted....lots to  like here.  Or not, depending on your view of it.

From 2010

Another one of those old homes that I would like to know more about.  Work was beginning on it, but even though I sort of know what direction it is from here.  I have no idea just where it is located.

A touch of spring...

I think these are Honey Locust blossoms...whatever they are, I love taking photos of them.  But when they are in bloom, the smell is almost too overpowering.

For Good Fences

I am going back in time for some fences, this one from March of 2009.  Poor thing, it has seen better days.

I have no idea where this one is...it was taken in 2010

This is one I have been meaning to post forever...I have looked back through my Good Fences posts and cannot find it.  So sorry if it is a repeat....

This one I know is a repeat, but I just like it...please expand to get the best view.

Thanks, Tex, for keeping this meme going.

A so-so photo

Taken a few years ago...I wish it had better lighting...yet feel like I can almost feel the heat just looking as is.

Treasures

We passed this place in 2010, but we have not passed it since, though I do know and remember where it is at.  I think  2010 is the year American Pickers started..
I do love the old gas pumps...and the Texaco sign.  It is fun to look at all that is here, wondering all the time what is inside both buildings.

I am strolling through the archives tonight, trying to find pictures that will fit The Barn Collective.  This top one was from somewhere on the road, on the way to Shipshewana, Indiana.
And this one was from the Shipshewana area...I have posted it before....
And here we have another, I think this time on the way home.
And here is some roof-art I had forgotten I had.   I love finding roof-art....

Waiting...

This shot was taken over in Illinois one evening in November in 2008.  Every time I run into it it makes me pause.  It is as if they were waiting for the farmers to return.  But it was late evening and I think they were done for the day.

Swans at the strip pits

This is part of a group of swans we were looking down on the other day out at the strip its.
They took off as I was trying take photos of them. It might look like their wing tips are black, but they aren't.

This is the the Dewar log cabin that is located at the T. C. Steele Historic site in Brown County.
Just imagine living here in some of the bitter winter weather when the wind is howling....and snow and/or rain is blowing sideways.

Just a couple photos this week for Good Fences...

First we have this gate/fence shot taken just a couple weeks ago...
and then we have this.. I have posted a version of it a few years ago. Not the best lighting, but still we can see this Short-eared owl.  Several of them used to come to the strip pit area and spend the winter.   I have not seen a single one out there in over two years, maybe three.
Just for the heck of it, I will throw this one in, too.    I hope you like them....

What a big, old beautiful home this must have been at one time.

We saw this house back at the end of January.

1929 Hudson Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton

This is a repeat post...from 2010.  I was trying to find something for Tuesday's Treasures and could not make up my mind.  So, old cars came to mind and I eventually came to this one.  I chose it cause I had so many different views of it.  I hope you like them.

Celebration

Our granddaughter had a birthday recently...
she still doesn't mind her picture being taken.  And I am hoping she never will.
I love how she is looking up at her mom...

Barns from a snowy day

Nothing much better than a barn, or old building on a snowy day.

Two views of this one...

It seems like I am constantly showing these barns lately...all taken on different days, though.

I hope you enjoyed these...

Migrating Bird Inn

Not much room left at this inn.
I don't remember which of these swans was upset, but one of the ones in these pics was causing a ruckus...
it was after anything that came near.  It was one of those times I wish I had a good video camera.

Edited to add:  Those other birds are White-fronted Geese.
