This evening, we re-traced a short part of our drive the other day.
We came around the curve down in this low place in the road--a place you just know is flooded when it rains very much at all--and there was this blue heron. And he did not seem to be near as scared as most are. I was probably only 15-20 feet from it...I didn't attempt to get out of the car though.
You did well. Herons are funny. Sometimes they get spooked very easily and other times it seems nothing bothers them.
