Barn Charm entry....

Notice the lattice like work under the eaves...this is the second barn I have seen this way. I would love to know what all the ventilation was for...was it for hay stored in the loft? Around here, the way the wind blows, I would think it would still allow a lot of rain and snow to get blown in some of the time.
It has some wear, but I think it is still pretty sturdy and I think it is still used. Also, notice the door the ladder leads to, it looks like it has new hinges.
Well, that's my entry for Tricia's Barn Charm meme...I hope if you have a barn that you will join. I love this meme...I have been photographing barns for so long...you can look in my labels on both this and my Pics & Pieces blog, and quickly see that they are a favorite subject for me. I love seeing the barns from different places, and have a special love for the ones with rock foundations. We don't have many of those right around here, so I really enjoy seeing them.

  1. it has a really good roof. i bet the lattice did allow venting for the hay that always puts out so much heat if it's stored too green. pretty neat!

  2. This looks to me like the typical midwestern barn...or what I think a midwestern should look like. Very much like my grandmother's barn, my sister's barn, and many of my friends barns.

    Lovely photos, Rose!

  3. I haven't seen lattice-work like that in a barn before. It definitely is interesting, but I agree that it probably is for ventilation.

  11. The roof indicates that this barn is still in used. The edging on the wall is really pretty. But this needs a little TLC. Nice shot and thanks for sharing!

  13. The lattice work is interesting. Now you MUST find the reason why. It seems to have a fairly new rood too. Whatever it is a nice barn. MB

  14. You have a great looking barn to enter for Barn Charm today. I like all the features you pointed out. I would also wonder about snow, dirt and rain getting in through the lattice openings. Fine post.
