Notice the lattice like work under the eaves...this is the second barn I have seen this way. I would love to know what all the ventilation was for...was it for hay stored in the loft? Around here, the way the wind blows, I would think it would still allow a lot of rain and snow to get blown in some of the time.
It has some wear, but I think it is still pretty sturdy and I think it is still used. Also, notice the door the ladder leads to, it looks like it has new hinges.

ReplyDeleteit has a really good roof. i bet the lattice did allow venting for the hay that always puts out so much heat if it's stored too green. pretty neat!
ReplyDeleteThis looks to me like the typical midwestern barn...or what I think a midwestern should look like. Very much like my grandmother's barn, my sister's barn, and many of my friends barns.

I haven't seen lattice-work like that in a barn before. It definitely is interesting, but I agree that it probably is for ventilation.
