I saw these birdhouses at a Parke County Amish home almost a couple weeks ago. I always wonder how they get the birdhouses up so high...do they attach them to the post, and then set the post in the ground or just how do they do it?
Your guess is probably right about attaching, then lifting. :) If all of those "apartments" are filled, there should be a whole lot fewer insects nearby.
I've been told you're supposed to clean out those martin houses in the winter, so they must have some way to put them up and take them down as needed. But I've never had them so I'm not sure.
These are huge bird houses. Providing a house for Martins seem to demand some knowledge of how they fly around the house (according to articles I've read...I don't know anything first hand. :-) The articles talk about telescoping poles, poles with wenches to raise and lower the pole and others.
i'm sure you're right about them attaching the birdhouse to the post and placing it in the ground. if they have a bird in each apartment then they are busy attendants, :) hope all is well. have a great day.
My dad and Grandfather always had martin houses. They had a splice in the pole attached on two huge bolts. Take one bolt out, lower the pole for cleaning, then hoist it back up. It always took two or three people. Martin houses are high maintenance, but well worth it!

ReplyDeleteI love these! They do have ways to get them up and down easily and clean them every winter, but I don't know how.
