I am not sure why it is but I cannot seem to remember the names of things any more...I just looked this up and I think it is an Eastern Pondhawk. I do not know why I have to either look it up every time or wait for someone to identify it for me. Maybe one of these days, the names will begin to stick. I do believe this is only about the 3rd, maybe 4th dragonfly I have photographed this year.
seeing your dragonfly made me realize I haven't seen any all summer. One evening last summer there were so many in the air it was like an air raid. They do have beautiful wings! Ann
ReplyDeletehe is beautiful no matter his name/species. i can't remember my friends names much less a dragonfly. i told bob this morning my multi tasker has blown a gasket. i can only focus on one thing at a time, if i try more i miss something.
ReplyDeletethat is one species i've never tried to learn the names of. birds i do try for. blooms - sometimes. dragons? no.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beauty! I always wonder how it is that they come in such a vast array of colors. They are exquisite, I think.
ReplyDeleteOooh lovely shot Rose, it does have beautiful wings doesn't it? I can never remember the names of anything - no matter how many times I am told :))
ReplyDeleteVery nice Rose!
ReplyDeleteI was taking photos at my daughter's house a couple of weeks ago and her backyard was full of dragonflies. I named a couple and she looked at me and said, you can name them too? Just a couple that are easy to recognize.
I haven't seen many at my own house this year. I hoped I'd get more pics but like you I haven't.
I always have to look it up, too. I always know it is the female for either the pondhawk or the blue dasher, but can never remember which one is green and which one is gold. Good photo of it! I love looking at where the wings attach. So mechanical looking!
ReplyDeleteNice colors. Richard
ReplyDeleteLovely photo! I find I have to check myself more and more--I just don't trust the memory like I used to. We've had quite a few dragonflies this year but I've only got a few photos that I was happy with.
ReplyDeleteHow do you do it. The dragonflies here are flitting here and there and I couldn't get a picture ever! I absolutely love this picture. This is one bug I don't mind.
ReplyDeleteGetting those lacy wings to show up like this must have been difficult to photograph.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture.
