I have had a love/hate relationship in my life Mom always grew them at one end of the porch. Always loved them there.
But they were the bane of our existence otherwise. They were in the garden, in the corn, in the tobacco. They grew any and everywhere with no effort at all. Always had to try to keep them hoed out of the garden and tobacco...always having to stoop and pull those up that were too close to the actual plant to risk using a hoe...though I have used a hoe and ended up cutting down a plant now and again.

Those morning glories are so pretty and they really are prolific. They look so happy climbing along the wire fence.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know they are this pesky. But OH the wonderful sky blue Morning Glories! It really makes my heart jump to see them. They are few and far between around here, maybe because of the very things you said. As a child, they grew wild up the one side of our brick house, a gorgeous decoration for all that severe brick. You have made my day.

ReplyDeleteWe have not had good luck with them at this house and particularly this year. Honest to Pete, they didn't start blooming until September! I need a better spot to grow them.
They DO grow everywhere else that you don't want them, though. Two years ago a bunch grew in our grass near the garden. Mike liked it so well that he would mow around it. I thought it looked like heck! lol!

Oh, they are so pretty with their heart shaped leaves and beautiful blue flowers. We have a similar plant with white flowers called 'Bindweed'. It takes over when you aren't looking! Lovely photo, though.

ReplyDeleteI like the blue and pink morning glories. All annuals here. It is the white that is a different variety and perennial here. Bindweed it is called and that is exactly what it does. I grow the blue every year and it just stays in the one spot I put it. I'd get a shotgun on it if it moved. LOL
ReplyDeleteOne time someone got the dogs ball stuck way up in a very tall tree and no matter what we did it wouldn't come down so Bob got the shotgun and blasted the branch and down came the ball. I was amazed. MB

ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty color of Morning Glory. They do spread but are oh so pretty.
ReplyDeleteYou have to like them for their exuberance, but they can take over. I let them grow up the deck rail but don't like them twisting through the lilac bushes. They do look great on this wire fence.
