The barn is white so I'm thinking this is an old dairy barn. I think many old dairy barns had small additions for equipment...but I could be wrong about that!
I think you should drive up and ask and take pictures of the inside. Tell them you are doing a photo shoot for Time Stand Still magazine . . . True huh . . .
If that's a dairy barn, which it looks like to me, then the addition is a milk house. It's where the milk would be taken from the main barn to a cooler, stored until the milk man came to get it and take to the creamery - or a cheese plant.
