Before green

When we were at the bird viewing station north of Danville, Illinois, the water lilies had not come to life yet.  There is something about them that I am attracted to...even in brown.  But I am so ready to go north again and see what they look like now.  However, we are supposed to have rain and storms today, so will be sticking close to home.

  1. I don't think I've ever noticed a brown one before. Nice pic!

  2. Interesting photo! And I think our water lilies up here are green now. I'm sure that Wisconsin could spare a few. Be safe in the storms!

  4. I can't say I've ever seen a brown one either, neat picture. We are supposed to have rain today too, so I mowed the lawn yesterday, usually I do it in two days just so my body doesn't feel so beat up, well I'm paying for it today (lol).

  5. A fine shot of the lily at this stage. A friend of mine has water lilies just now starting to bloom.

  6. I did not know they had a brown phase. Your comment about the Illinois weather brought back a memory I'd like to forget about Illinois weather. Scary at least for me it was. Everyone else just kept driving like it was no big deal.

  7. i think they're neat, too. i know they can spread rapidly, though, so am glad i don't have any in the pond. some of the local lakes get rather plugged with them. :)

    stay safe in storm season!

  8. This is a really interesting picture!!! First, I have never seen lily pads that are not green and lovely. When I first looked at this, I thought it was a tree stump, can you see it? I never knew they looked like this when dormant!!
