Brick kilns

A few years ago, we were on a rambling drive, and were headed home when we came across these kilns.  They are in the northern part of Vermillion county.

Not all were being fired at the time if I am remembering correctly.
I think there were 5 of them, but I am not positive.  The one thing I am positive of is that it was hot there, and the guys there were doing a job I would not want to do.
The head was radiating till we were hot standing 8 or 10 feet away.  I even wonder if you would need a coat in winter time...

  4. An impressive series of these kilns. When they are hot, it is dangerous levels of heat it would appear. A fine group of shots.

  5. A very hot job... which I guess would be welcome in winter.

  6. These can be fun places to visit.
I have been to many different brick kilns and they have all been fun, even on a hot day.
    Great share, Rose!
    Have a Happy Week!!

  7. We use to have kilns near us that fired clay tiles for sewers and field drain tile. Now it is all plastic that is used and the kilns were torn down. I liked seeing your place of visit.

  8. I like the shape of the building. I would not have a problem standing near that heat.
