A Great Day

First of all, let me apologize for the quality of these first shots...but any day we see an eagle, we consider it a great day!


I had my camera on a monopod but I still could not hold steady with it zoomed in as much as it was.


You can still see that it is a juvenile Bald Eagle.


Look at that big dark, hooked beak.  It was sitting in the same tree as the Bald Eagle seen here.  It had been raining again today, but more a light rain rather than the downpour the other eagle had been in.  If you didn't see it, be sure and look.  I have never seen an eagle look as dejected as it did.

In addition to the Bald Eagle, I lost count of the hawks we saw.  Oh not a huge number but somewhere around 6 or 7 or 8.  Most I could not stop to take photos, but the last one, I got several shots.


I don't know what kind of hawk this is...


He cooperated for just a few shots..


I know this and the first shot look like the same shot, but they aren't.


He almost took off in the above shot..,but composed himself for the photo below


I do consider this my favorite shot...


I managed the one shot, another truck passed and he was off...and he was 'screaming' at me as he left.  I wish I had thought to video it as he left.

    No apologies needed, these shots are fantastic! With majestic birds like these, we have to take what we can get. I don't know if I have ever seen a juvenile Bald eagle. Even though young, he sure has a deadly beak. I spotted a hawk like your second one, sitting on a post watching. Wish I knew what they are. Love the screeching and flying away shot!!

    I never see them either. We have hawks here but not eagles. Loved them.

    Both, are stunning birds and your images are outstanding. I'm pretty sure that the hawk is a Red Tailed Hawk [some don't have a true 'red tail'...but the speckled belly is usually the tell-tale marking for IDing] It may also be a juvenile. But to me, looks adult.

    I think the hawk is such a mysterious bird. And you're right, any day we see an eagle, it's a great day. I don't often see them, or maybe I'm looking at the wrong time.

    These are great shots. Seeing an Eagle and getting pictures definitely make for a good day. The hawk looks like it could be a juvenile Red-tailed,but I am no expert on those things.Good pictures of it as well.

    That last shot of the hawk is fantastic! Great shots of both birds. I think Anni is right about it being a Red Tailed Hawk. Quite common around here although they are generally along the high way and not posing anywhere it would be considered safe to photograph them. Beautiful bird no matter what kind of hawk.
