I could not believe my eyes...it was no longer there. And I considered it wonderful. I would love to know what happened to it. Nothing is left. No one would dream this ever existed.
Well that led me to thinking...
This one is gone...it has been gone quite a while. I know the road it was on, but not the exact spot. The roof was getting bad, so maybe that is part of the reason it is gone. It is on a road we travel several times a year...and all of a sudden, I realized there was no visible sign of it anywhere. The old silo is gone, too.
This is another that just disappeared....I know right where it was, too. It has been gone a good while.
I posted photos of this one HERE a while back, not realizing it was totally gone. I decided to go see what it looked like now and couldn't find it. I thought I must be crazy....thought I had just gotten the wrong road.
So I come home and got on google maps and started checking the roads in the general area and I am not seeing anything that even comes close. Lo and behold, it happened to have the street view of the one road I thought it should be on. And there it was....thankfully they still had old street views.
But with me, I love old photos...so hopefully, someday someone will enjoy my little bits of history.

ReplyDeleteGood grief!!! We will always wonder what happened. The first one was in really good condition, too. Now only you have the image of these barns of the past.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope that someone like the Barnwood Builders saved at least some of these beauties to build something else. When my brother was younger, he photographed old barns in the Lawrenceville GA area and all of those are gone now too.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was out walking on Thursday I was looking for a building that was clearly marked on my map. I was just beginning to think I'd taken a wrong turn when I encountered a heap of charred beams and ashes; the building had burned down. Maybe that happened to your first barn there - it looks too well cared for to have been destroyed any other way. As for the others I think we can safely say that gravity has taken its toll.

ReplyDeleteso very sad they are gone, I love seeing the old barns you find. we don't have many barns in FL, and have never seen any like these. I love old buildings, at least you can remember them here....

ReplyDeleteA fiine series of the departed barns. This is why we need to keep some barns as a heritage item that much not be lost. Sad to see them gone!

...Deceased barns...what a wonderful term, I'll have to use this! I have visited and photographed many a barns that are now "Deceased." Last weekend I was in Amish country to see some abandoned barns, several of them have disappeared and have been replaced by new barn. It's like losing an old friend. That Rose of stopping by, it's so nice to see back!

ReplyDeleteI did not photograph a barn near me because it was so near a house, I did not like to stop right there in their driveway. Then one day suddenly the barn was gone! Just a bit of bare ground where it stood. A missed opportunity
Virtually ALL of the barns in our part of the world are dilapidated. I guess no one has the money to maintain and repair. They make for great pictures though... I especially like the last one.
