This coots for you!

These shots are from last week out at the strip pits..

When Sarah, Lorelei and I were visiting my other daughter, her condos she lived at was built around these little ponds that had coots, turtles, and frogs...plus I think sometimes there were a pair of mallards.  Sarah and Lorelei stopped and got some kind of food for the coots.

There was a walking path all around the pond...and any time this one coot heard Lorelei's voice here it came and followed us all around.  It didn't come till it heard her voice.  And just the one would follow her all around.  At least I always assumed it was the same one.

  1. I've never heard of these Coots before, Rose. That is so special that it came around just when it heard Lorelei's voice. I think animals and birds respond to the sweet sound of children. Lovely photos, Rose.

  2. This sure gave you good photo opportunities. I usually just get them far away or as they are quickly swimming away from me.

  3. What an interesting story about this coot. I have never seen a coot before, except on my blog. So you and I are the exception. I like the way you captured the water beads on his feathers.

  8. It is obvious they learned early who has the food. It makes a great opportunity to get some good shots. Which you did.

  11. It is a bird that I could not identify but now I can. I like learning the names of them. Maybe we have had them on our lake near here but I am not sure.
