Round barn, log cabin, and more...

This round barn is what originally what drew me to this place.  I don't remember where I heard about it.  It is not in my book A Round Indiana, Round Barns of Indiana by John T. Hanou.

This log cabin is at the Skinner Farm Museum, too.  It was moved there; I don't remember where it was in its former life.  And notice in the background is a brick home.  It is two stories, and is a fairly big home...and it was moved there from a few miles away!  I do not recall if the round barn was already there or if the guy moved it there, too.  I think most buildings there are buildings he moved there.

I don't know why I am showing this one...I don't remember a thing about it.  I like that it is old...I like that it is logs with the ends notched.

I hope you enjoyed seeing these.

  5. In the Iron Age circular buildings were the norm in Britain, it may have been the influence of the Romans that led to the introduction of rectangular buildings. The round building is actually more stable as the corners of buildings are their weak point. This whole collection of photos is fascinating to me.

  11. These are great images! I like the log cabins and the round barn is very interesting. I have only seen one round barn in Maryland. It just seems to odd to me to build it that way but I guess we are used to the more classic type barn structures.
