This was in our crab apple tree a few years ago. I forget what we did or if we did anything.
From my experience with them at the orchard, they are not aggressive unless they are messed with. as in doing something to make them feel threatened , or if there is a storm coming.

By Stargoose and Hanglands, I now know it is Partridge Pea.
Still scary!!!
ReplyDeleteA thing of great beauty. Hornets constructed a nest in our local nature reserve last year and the warden thought it necessary to put a sign on it saying "Do not disturb the hornets' nest" - as if anyone would!
ReplyDeleteWe've only had one like that once---- and that was in our pump house! Yes, our water comes from a well. THe nests are amazing. THe wasps/hornets I can live without. I've grown to like bees, especially bumble bees and mason bees.
ReplyDeleteThat nest is huge.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photo of that huge nest. When we took the window shutters down, there were many kinds of small nests behind them. Scary!
ReplyDeleteOh my, isn't that something? The hornet's nest is delicate and so intriguing. I wonder what it is made from?

this hornets nest is actually pretty. the ones daddy used to burn were ugly. I loved to stand way back, watch him wrap a piece of cloth round and round the end of a can fishing pole, pour kerosene on it, and set on fire and BURN the nest... you know I love FIRE
ReplyDeleteI am always impressed with what insects can do by working together Friendship
ReplyDeleteGood thing you did not mess with them !! They are terrible ! We had them building a nest in our balcony..but mercifully the kids flew away soon and we sprayed some insecticide on the abandoned nest and destroyed it !!
ReplyDeleteDevi :))
I hope you just left it alone. It’s an impressive shot

ReplyDeleteThat looks like quite a huge nest that you don't want to bump into! Splendid clarity captured here!
ReplyDeleteThat is a really big wasp nest! A great find but a little intimidating! Beautiful detail and color.
ReplyDeleteWow that is some nest!!
ReplyDeleteThat is quite the nest.I wouldn't want to mess with them.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really big nest. I think I'd keep my distance.
