From January 2010

Just a few shots from a winter drive

It always pays to zoom in a bit...the top photo is what I found when I zoomed in on this barn.

The wind was busy that day....I can almost feel it just looking at the snow being blown about here.

I think these are beech leaves...someone told me when the tree is young for some reason their leaves cling through winter.

How about an orchard at rest....this photo just does not do it justice...but you get the idea.  It is a huge orchard by Indiana standards.

  1. These are wonderful! This drive would have made me really happy! My favorites are the silent orchard...I look at it and see silence, the silence of snow with no birds or anything. And the snowblown road. WOW, just love these.

  2. I like the picture of the "orchard at rest". So still and peaceful.

  3. After seeing those maybe I'll appreciate the mad mix of weather we call summer on these islands a little more. Somehow I quite forget about winter at this time of year. The weathered look of that old barn really appeals to me as does the resting orchard.

Love them all...and yes, beech. A very coomon winter sight her are the beech hedges which stay amber throughout the grey(est) season. YAM xx

  5. Fun to see the details on the barn. The snow blowing makes me feel so cold. We've had beech trees before and on a windy night in winter, you can hear those leaves "rattling." Have a nice start to the week.

  7. I love barns. Looks like that one is a happy one with that smiley face.
Sure does look cold there. I hate the thought that it won't be long before it starts looking like that around here again.

  10. Beautiful winterscapes with the snow that illustrates the wind blowing! The orchards look so tranquil and the dense network of branches stand out nicely against the snow,
