I have no idea why I did not try to count them all...now I am regretting that....I don't mean just in this photo, I mean in total. Wait till you see!
They were over across a little inlet....I had my Point & Shoot on a monopod....
To the best I can tell, all the turtles I am showing you are different turtles...unless otherwise noted.
In all the time I was there, I did not see one slip into the water...
I think this guy was one of the first ones I saw....I walked back to the Rav to get the monopod because I could not hold still enough to focus while zoomed in. Imagine my surprise when I came back and started seeing ALL of the others.
Looking at the ones I took, I am pretty sure I missed at least a couple more singles...
About the time I think I have showed them all, I see others...

ReplyDeleteYour top picture is a beauty! We have turtles in the pond, but at first sight of Millie and me, they hit the water. Millie is wary of them since one bit her when she was a pup.

ReplyDeleteHehe, I love how they are all craning their necks and stretching their limbs - presumably to soak up as much of the sun as was available? So cute - you did good catching all these to share with us. I use a monopod too. So much less clumsy than a tri - though a little less stable. YAM xx
I have never seen so many turtles in one place! Did you know that a group of turtles is called a Bale? Despite these rare turtle images, my favorite is still the first photo of the beautiful water from the strip pit. Glorious.

I truly enjoyed all these turtles, in number 3 I can see all different sizes, must be several families of them. I love the last one because it looks like momma and baby or maybe teenager... these are amazing there were so many. must have been a cool day and the sun was warming their RV's they carry on their backs. OH NO! never would I eat one of these guys...although I do have a PIG roast in the crock pot right now... not sure what the difference is, but it is to me.

I am always amazed how they determine it's time to sunbathe and they all manage to find their own spot to perch themselves. I have come across turtles like this too. But I have never seen them "jump" off their perches. It seems like everyone knows when the one at the top decides it's time to come down.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see what a strip pit looks like since you mention it sometimes. It is lovely and not what I expected. Wonderful turtle shots with your monopod. I prefer that to a tripod which I'm too lazy to set up and use most of the time.
