2009 photos...

I ran into more photos of the Short-eared owls and cannot resist posting two or three more.

This one is cropped...and so is the one below.

I have been out at the strip pit area a few times this fall late of the evening and have not seen a single one.  And have only seen one Northern Harrier.    A few years ago, there were so many of both you would not believe it if I told you.

But I have seen several deer....this is an old photo, too.  But have seen this many a time or two this fall.

And a late evening view from out there.

  1. Wonderful pictures! I love the last one. It is good to get a close look at this owl. Because we had some last year, but they flew too high for me to be able to see any details of them at all.

  2. Great pictures of the Short-Eared Owl. I went out one day last week to a place where they've been seen recently but had no luck. We get a small influx of them every winter.

  3. I have noticed a marked loss of birds here, and sounds like your strip is missing them also... that owl is so beautiful.. I would love to see a field full of deer.....

What a shame if the population has dropped... then again, perhaps it was just a matter of timing. It would be good to go again, in spring say, to see if it is still the case. Such handsome birds! YAM xx
