A barn from October, from over in Illinois. Of barn colors, black is my least favorite color. I don't know what my favorite color would be. Probably either unpainted or red.
There are lots of black barns here. Traditionally they used the same sort of tar as was used on ships to waterproof the timbers. As a result they survived for centuries - unless they caught fire, which they frequently did. I like the red barns that you show us; I think they are painted with what we used to call "red oxide", which my father used on the little house where I was brought up.
That silo looks lovely against that black wall. Strange that you should dislike black..I like black...I don't know why!! But I love white and cream a lot :)And all pastel shades ! Devi :))
Wonderful photo. I haven't seen one in travels or local. Lots of dilapidated ones in our state, I assume because active farmers have gone to metal buildings. I see a lot of those.
I don't believe that I have ever seen a black barn before. Most of them are natural or red. I have seen one blue barn and a couple of white ones, but not black.
I have never seen a black barn, but this one really made a nice picture!
ReplyDeleteWe have a black one kind of like this nearby. It sure is noticeable! At least this one is in good shape.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, either red or unpainted.

ReplyDeleteI've never seen a black one either... Natural wood is best, but I have seen white ones that were nice.
ReplyDeleteGosto destes celeiros.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e boa semana.

I don't know if there are any black barns around here. I know there are a lot of plain ones that are just weathered wood. I'm a sucker for a red barn.
ReplyDeleteBlack barns do not look nice or appealing. At least the roof and surrounding is not black. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of black, nut not on a barn. red or white would look good on this one. it is a night barn.

I guess black is OK, but I'd prefer traditional red barns.
ReplyDeleteWhat a grand looking farm area. I think I prefer red.

ReplyDeleteThat is one huge barn with quite an expansive roof! I've never seen a black one before. Great find and capture!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Black would not be my favourite color for a barn. I think I would choose red.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite it good ole red.
Nice capture of this black one though.
That is very nice.
ReplyDeleteI can't recall ever seeing a black barn before. I'm with you either not painted or painted red is what I like.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Red is a better barn color than black. That is a big one.
ReplyDeleteTambién resulta atractivo en negro.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
Well, I like the photograph of this black barn :)
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for sharing it.
All the best Jan
