First we have the Eurasion Collared Dove above....compare it to the Mourning Dove below. You can see differences.
Also, do you notice the almost iridescent colors of purple and blue on the Mourning Dove. On top of his head and neck. I suppose it was the lighting, but I have never seen that before.
No, it was not the lighting. We have lots of Mourning Doves, and they do have this iridescence. I love that you showed them together, so I can compare! I see the collar on the other one!
ReplyDeleteI think the doves that come to our backyard are Mourning Doves, but I will study them more closely. Either way, I love them all! Your pictures are so good!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures!💖
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! We don't have doves down here.
ReplyDeleteWe always have a pair hanging around in the spring and summer... Sweet, gentle sound.
ReplyDeleteI predict that you'll tire of the three-note song of the Collared Dove if they become anywhere near as numerous as they are here. It's difficult to believe that there were none in the UK when I was born and I remember my father announcing that there were "some of them foreign doves" on the farm.

ReplyDeleteNice comparison - and many birds have an iridescence in their feathers - the angle of light makes all the difference! YAM xx
I have gotten quite a few mourning doves around here and have never noticed that purple and blue before. I'll have to dig up some old pictures and see if I can spot it in any of them.
ReplyDeleteThat's lovely and interesting to note the details and shades on two different doves!
ReplyDeleteOh Rose you know me by now...I love any and all birds! You have found & shared these beauties with perfection.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeletePretty captures of the sweet doves. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy week ahead!
Your close-ups of these doves are top notch! I love the detail in their plumage.
ReplyDeleteours are mourning doves, and I have not noticed the colors on them. but will pay attention the next time I see one. they are both beautiful birds and photos
ReplyDeleteThe Eurasians have invaded our state but where we live, the mourning doves do rule. I like seeing the different shining colors in their feathers.
ReplyDeleteLovely seeing both the images....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful subtle shades in the Mourning Dove's feathers !
Devi :))
Beautiful doves.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and sweet looking birds.
ReplyDeleteThe color difference is due to your excelllent photography. Thus dove is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBoth of these Doves are so beautiful . The Mourning Dove has that iridescent look in the right light. Subtle but pretty.
ReplyDeleteDoves come to our feeders, but they just look gray. Your beautiful photos have inspired me to give the old binoculars a try to see if there are distinguishing colors on our visitors. Got to find my bird field guide, too.
ReplyDeletePreciosas las dos Rose. Geniales sus colores.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
Beautiful photos. The feathers look so soft and silky that I want to reach into the photo and pat them!
ReplyDeleteBoth together you can really see the difference!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty birds.
Oh yeah, huge difference, we've only had morning doves on the porch, but a lot of them.
ReplyDeleteI have seen other types of doves on our travels but we only get the mourning doves here. I love to listen to them in the morning.
ReplyDeleteNow I need to compare to the doves at my feeder and she which they are. Nice shots.
