I had never heard of round barns till maybe 20-25 years ago.  Since then we have come across maybe 8 or 10.


I think I like this one better in B&W....

    I like them both--- they tell different stories. I do wonder why a round barn? It seems like a LOT of extra work and a lessening of storage practicality. On the other hand, it is beautiful. And that's reason enough, isn't it....

    I don't think I've ever seen a round barn other than in pictures. This is a nice looking one.

    The time I prefer a color over black and white but I agree with you on this one that looks absolutely beautiful in black and white. Plus I really like the Round Barn thing and makes me wonder how hard it was to build it. And how they do anything inside of it like you couldn't put stalls or anything but maybe it's a hay barn. In other words there's not much storage in a Round Barn I would think

    I don't know of any round barns in the UK, it seems to be a N American thing. In many ways round buildings are superior to rectangular ones - they require less building material to contain the same amount of space and they are stronger. The ancient Anglo-Saxons knew this and built "round-houses" but somewhere along the line we forgot about them and started building with corners; presumably the Romans may have influenced this. The plan is still used when buildings need to withstand a lot of wind - lighthouses and windmills for example.

    Yes, we have several round barns locally. the cows were put on a merry go round kind of thing when being milked. This one looks lovely.

    there is not much difference between the color and B&W versions, though there is a bit of blue/white texture visible in the color

    What a great find! I don't think that they are very common. I have only seen one. A county close to where I live has a barn tour every year and one year they had a round barn on the tour. It was quite interesting.
