 I feel like it is looking at me saying, "This is MINE."

Birds in tree

 A quick snap of this group of birds on the way to the store and then they were gone.

Golden days...

 Am I the only one that thinks there are a lot of yellow flowers in the fall?

Evening sun

 Even though you might think it is the moon, it is in reality the sun.

Here you have...

 A milkweed bug on a milkweed bloom!

Summer flower

 Another shot from July...taken at a backwater/swamp type area.

Ready for take-off!

 This was taken back in July.   I hope I get to see more,  but I would not bet on a chance to photograph any of them.

Wide open spaces...

 Who, besides me, loves clouds like this?

**********
The photo in the previous post, Hidden Silk, is a milkweed pods gone to seed.  And the title Hidden Silk comes from the following poem:

SEPTEMBER

by: Helen Hunt Jackson (1830-1885)

    HE golden-rod is yellow;
    The corn is turning brown;
    The trees in apple orchards
    With fruit are bending down.

    The gentian's bluest fringes
    Are curling in the sun;
    In dusty pods the milkweed
    Its hidden silk has spun.

    The sedges flaunt their harvest,
    In every meadow nook;
    And asters by the brook-side
    Make asters in the brook.

    From dewy lanes at morning
    The grapes' sweet odors rise;
    At noon the roads all flutter
    With yellow butterflies.

    By all these lovely tokens
    September days are here,
    With summer's best of weather,
    And autumn's best of cheer.

    But none of all this beauty
    Which floods the earth and air
    Is unto me the secret
    Which makes September fair.

    'T is a thing which I remember;
    To name it thrills me yet:
    One day of one September
    I never can forget.

Hidden silk...

 This is the first one of the fall for me...it was taken September 8.  I saw one or two more, but most were still green.

Seed pod, pt 2

 The seeds look like some kind of eggs waiting to hatch.

Saturday, September 18, 2021

Seed pod, pt 1

 I always take their photo...every year, if given the opportunity.  For the longest time I had a much longer drive to see any.  Now they are about 5-10 minutes from me.

House finch

 Another shot from late June, a House Finch I think.

Little one

 This little turtle was only 3 or 4 inches long, at the most.

Dragonfly on log....

 This dragonfly paused long enough for me to get a couple or three shots back in June.

Mourning dove...

A Mourning Dove that I saw at the strip pit area one evening....

Gone now

 This was taken the end of July...we were by there the other night and about all that is left are the seed pods.  I am so glad to have some close by to photograph.

Little flower

I am not sure what these are....I always assume some type of thistle but do not know that for sure.

Approaching the end of it's season

This was taken back in July...the birds got most of the seeds.  Before they were all totally gone, the heads of the sunflowers totally disappeared.  I assume squirrels got them.

Its better side

 I am lucky to get a half decent shot of the Eastern Kingbird...they take flight so quickly.

Lotus

 They are in full bloom now...I always think they are so elegant.

Dragonfly

 This is one of the few dragonflies I have photographed this summer.

Meet Jeremiah...

 There were several of them in this wet area....but could only photograph this one and one other..

Yellow flowers...

 One of the common flowers found around the area....

From a few weeks ago

This was taken through our dining room window.

Day's end....

 Another sunset...I know.  But no two are ever the same.  I never tire of them.  Right now, my favorite place to watch the sun go down is blocked by corn that is about 10 ft. tall.  That is not much of an exaggeration either.

Strolling along..

 This was taken a few nights ago...a big fawn...but there was another that was even bigger.
