Approaching the end of it's season

This was taken back in July...the birds got most of the seeds.  Before they were all totally gone, the heads of the sunflowers totally disappeared.  I assume squirrels got them.

  1. We lay ours out on the ground from the birds. They are feasting.

  2. The sunflower is still very pretty. It has gorgeous color. It is interesting, the sunflowers where I live are done but north of here, they are blooming. Maybe depends on when they were planted. I'm not sure.

  6. The folks across the road have planted a bunch to look like a bush! They all still look great--- but the maple leaves are showing the strain of our very dry summer. Nice picture of this nearly spent sunflower, Rose!

  11. I had such fun watching goldfinches grabbing the seeds from our one sunflower. I think they are lovely even when looking down like this.

  13. Lovely picture. I guess the seeds were meant for the birds to enjoy.

  14. They soon start to look a bit sad, though always characterful. They seem to be growing them on all sorts of odd bits of agricultural land around here, I think as some kind of agri-environmental scheme.
