This was taken back in July...the birds got most of the seeds. Before they were all totally gone, the heads of the sunflowers totally disappeared. I assume squirrels got them.
The sunflower is still very pretty. It has gorgeous color. It is interesting, the sunflowers where I live are done but north of here, they are blooming. Maybe depends on when they were planted. I'm not sure.
The folks across the road have planted a bunch to look like a bush! They all still look great--- but the maple leaves are showing the strain of our very dry summer. Nice picture of this nearly spent sunflower, Rose!
They soon start to look a bit sad, though always characterful. They seem to be growing them on all sorts of odd bits of agricultural land around here, I think as some kind of agri-environmental scheme.
We lay ours out on the ground from the birds. They are feasting.
