Almost done

More and more of the fields in my neck of the woods have been harvested. Sometimes if you are out and the weather is good, you will see the farmers working in the dark of night. They have to hurry and get things done when the opportunity arises. This fall they have really had a lot of rain to contend with.

  1. I remember seeing the lights of tractors in the fields many nights while growing up in Indiana.

  2. In my growing up years, I knew many farmers (including my grandparents) and uncles and aunts and occasionally I worked on farms during the summers...it is very hard work, 24/7, and I have a lot of respect for those who work the land. I, too, have seen farmers working into the night with lights on their tractors...

  3. That must be an extremely difficult way of life.

I imagine the joy is in the natural beauty that surrounds you, and knowing that you are feeding people with your labor.

Great close-up shot of the corn.

Thanks for stopping by to see my cats. ;-)

  4. What a nice post. It could be sepia scenrs. I have seen the farmers here working with lights on. seeming weatherwise. Now while i don't have to do heavy farm work I have hauled hay to our horses by tractor light---these short days. MB

  5. Most of the harvesting is done here, too, although I have still seen a few bean and corn fields waiting. I was gleaning a few left-behind ears from a harvested field for my squirrels yesterday :-)
