First Blue Heron of the summer

This heron was acting very strange...we were visiting a covered bridge. He flew up from right below the bridge and I could see that he just flew up and over the bank to land in a field. I was in hot pursuit...I hurried up and through the bridge, and there he was in the field. Even though I was out in a wide open spot, all he would do is walk away a little bit. I did not try to get too close...I am thinking it had young nearby and wanted to lure us away from the area.

  4. A very nice shot of one of my favorite birds...we have lots of these year-round but they can be rather skittish. I think you're right about it protecting it's young.
