On a trip to the strip pits, this was probably my most prized capture. I am pretty sure this is an
American Bittern....we have seen one or two out there before, but never this close. This is a cropped portion of a photo, but he probably was no more than 20 ft. from me, if even that. He flew over my vehicle and just landed right there...I could not have ask for more. Unless it was better eyes to focus with.
My goodness, he's pretty! I don't think I have ever seen one like him before.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is a great capture!!! I've heard the bitterns are VERY shy. Wonderful job!!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent, Rose!!! Lucky you.
ReplyDeleteI am in 'Wowsville'. MB
Awesome capture Rose...It's like he posed just for you. I've not see this bird before. I'm going to check your link.
ReplyDeleteIt was a lucky break to have him land so close. You did a fine job of taking advantage of the occasion. Very nice detail shot with excellent, natural looking color.
ReplyDeleteI also am unfamiliar with this bird. Serendipity is such a happy thing in photography! That's why I carry a camera everywhere...one just never knows when a bittern's gonna fly over and land in front of you!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot!
super photo, great to see such a delightful bird close up.
