Barn charm...

Last week on our little drive, since we were in Terre Haute, we drove on south. And though we didn't think it far to the Wabash river, we also took a turn and went west.
Much to our surprise, we found a new to us DNR property....Fairbanks Landing. This barn was at one of the sites. I just had to stop and take a few shots. As usual it was the middle of the day with bright sunlight.

It is well on the way to falling down.

But can't you just imagine it as the center of a big farm....

How I would love to know who built it, what all it was used for, how long it has been standing. The stories it could tell are endless. I have other shots of a couple other buildings that I will show in later posts.

This is my weekly entry to Tricia's Barn Charm meme.

  1. Until you click on that last shot you really don't see how huge it once was.
Sad that it's falling down. Kinda curious about that one bright piece of red tin.

  2. It is a shame to see these buildings in such a bad state.
It could indeed tell a tale or two.

  4. This is a shame!! I would like to know as well. But really, times are so hard for the farmers, I watch a bit of the Farm Aid concert every year that Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp put on. So many farmers losing the farm, the land, I guess the barns are deserted for jobs in the city.

  5. It was a beauty in it's day and it certainly still has charm. Great find!

  6. Yes, what a shame. There are so many great barns, and so many other buildings going to ruin. Old structures were built so much better than today's.

  7. Amazing how taking a different road can lead you to places you didn't know were there. Looks like this was a wonderful barn in its day. I like the interior shots. You don't get those too often. I too am very curious about the history of places like this, but I think the stories are long gone with those who used to live here.

  14. It seems to have lacked any TLC for a long time.

  15. It's heartbreaking to see these old charmers falling into ruin. This oldie but goodie was a very large barn in its day. If only barns could talk! Great photos!

  16. I bet that was grand when it was first built! I like the old barns, though, even when they're falling apart.

  20. So neat that you were able to step inside and see the inner structure. Something I have not been able to do.

  21. That's one awesome barn! I love the way it's built, esp w/ that 'room' overhang in the 3rd shot, that's unusual. I would like to have seen it in it's heyday. It's so 'hollowed out' & falling in... such a shame, but thanks so much for posting & sharing =)

  23. A fine series, Rose. I think you did a fine job of showing the interior considering the bright, mid-day lighting that make it difficult. The last couple of pictures show the sad state the barn is in. Nice to capture it while you can.

  24. Stunning captures Rose! I would probably have been too afraid to step inside. This poor, yet still charming, barn is in such sad condition. What a great find though! The third shot is very captivating… love the large 'room' that juts out.
