my grandmothers house was a lot like this one, same era, and her windows went to the floor. we loved to slide the bottom open and step out on the porch. i like this photo, the colors on the house are so pretty... this kind of house makes me go snap happy
Come sit a spell... Do you think there were three doors originally and been replaced by windows? Or maybe they just liked the idea of long windows and cut them that size and put doors in. Makes you want to see what it looks like on the inside. Very unusual.
I love the painting job. Love the windows. I think they used to do that in the south. They could open them up and walk right out. AND, why would anyone want to make it into a triplex?
Was there any sign of life there? Wild windows, wonder why there are not any like this now? But there are no steps to get up to the door! Looks like there were and they broke. I would LOVE to look through and I am afraid I would have tried!! Yes, I would have knocked and if deserted I would have tried to enter.
I have seen the windows that go all the way to the floor before. Is that the south side? My Mom said they would do that in rural areas to capture the most light.
Older beachfront homes (about 1800s) on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, had those windows to the floor to catch every breeze. Alas few survived Katrina's surge.Striking color.
You might be able to convert that into a triplex...neat!

ReplyDeleteI like the paint selection. Those windows seem unusual for that type of house.

ReplyDeleteA fine shot of this unique (to me) style of windows. A great porch from which to watch the neighborhood.
