That's a very vivid red patch; though I'm familiar with the name I don't think I've ever seen a picture before, our birds are of course very different from those on the other side of the Atlantic.
Beautiful pic. We live near the river and see them everywhere. Last week they were at our suet feeder. I have never seen them visit the feeders before. They are one of my favorite birds. We often see groups of them sitting on the phone wires near the County Park.
Oh my gosh. He's lovely! I love his striped wings. Our black birds are just black over here in England, save for the ladies looking slightly more dowdy dark brown than pure black. All the best, Bonny
I LOVE that photo Rose; great shot!
ReplyDeleteThis Red-winged blackbird is a beauty! Looking forward for more spring photos from you, Rose!
ReplyDeleteyup, flocks have been leaving here, although there's still quite a few girls at the feeders.

Reminded me of the Beatles song: "Blackbird singing in the dead of night . . . ." :-)

ReplyDeleteBeautiful capture. Some have arrived here too. By the looks of the one in your photo it may be a little cooler than he expected.
ReplyDeletewe don't have red wings but we have a gallon black birds. LOUD blackbirds.
ReplyDeleteYou got this one to show off perfectly so we could get a first-class view of the red wing.
ReplyDeleteWe have a ton of Red-wings right now. they flock to the feeders and knock the seed all over the place. but I like them anyway.

That red wing certainly stands out. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. We've been hearing them for some time now- but the swampy area they inhabit is a bit far from the road and no way to get close.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any lately, I guess they're headed home. Lovely shot.
