But a house that has done what a house should do,
a house that has sheltered life,
That has put its loving wooden arms around a man and his wife,
A house that has echoed a baby's laugh and held up his stumbling feet,
Is the saddest sight, when it's left alone, that ever your eyes could meet.
from The House With Nobody in It by Joyce Kilmer

I love this poem! And yes, this is sad.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to see, though no doubt the family moved on to more spacious accommodation.
ReplyDeleteI think almost any abandoned building is sad, but houses more than others.
ReplyDeletebeautiful poem and the house does truly look sad... only in America do we abandon buildings, unlike Europe that just keeps repairing and rebuilding them. this one looks past redemption now
ReplyDeleteThe lines from that poem say it perfectly. When I see a house like this it always makes me daydream about what it looked like when it was lived in and who the people were that lived there.
ReplyDeleteI am very familiar with that poem and agree totally. WHat a sad image to see this abandoned home. Well captured mood. Friendship
ReplyDeleteAw!! A rather sad image...
ReplyDeleteIf it could just speak.......

Perfect poem for this awesome photo. My childhood home is still standing and when I see it I am sad. It is a business now and not very well taken care of. I think of all the memories of folks that are no longer with me.
ReplyDeleteThis one seems to be way beyond saving.
ReplyDeleteA sad poem. If only that house could talk and tell it's story of better days.
ReplyDeleteI love images of abandoned houses. So much history and it makes you wondered who lived there. A great image and wonderful poem.
