Got texts from Sarah the other night...,she said she had these waiting for her when she got to work one morning. Her work is located at the edge of town...at the edge of an industrial area. The one above is an Imperial moth.
And this one is a Polyphemus Moth, I think. Please correct me if you know different.
This shows the size. I think they are gorgeous!
Beautiful specimens indeed! The imperial moth has an eye-catching splotchy pattern with nice contrasting colors. That polyphemus moth is huge!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! Never seen either one. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteWow! Where does she find these? Are they alive? They are huge and gorgeous and rare. What a treat!
ReplyDeleteThose are a couple of seriously amazing moths. Nice pictures, for sure.

WOW, these are fascinating. The phone was a good idea to show the size of them.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen any like these. They are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWe are seeing a lot of beautiful moths and butterflies around the pond right now. Dragonflies too. I suppose there is a variety in the dragonfly world since we see them in so many sizes I don't think they are just different stages of life. I don't know too much about any of them. I just enjoy watching them.

ReplyDeleteWow, such unusual looking moths. Your daughter took some really nice pictures. I don't see them that much around here. You can really see all the details on the wings.

I did not realize there were moth species that rival butterflies in beauty.
