I had forgotten this place...

Isn't it a beauty?

Can you belief this:

The back part of it was the jail, and the jailer and his family lived in the front part.

  3. I've never heard of the jailer and his family living in the same building as the jail, but it makes sense.

  5. A grade school teacher of mine was born in 1925 in the town jail in North Dakota. His dad was the sheriff, and they lived in the building. This is a beautiful old building, beautifully captured.

  6. They sure don't make them like they used to. What a beautiful building. I can't imagine a jailer living with his family in the same building as the prisoners these days.

  7. I have never seen a building like this used as a jail. it is a beauty. my cousins were raised upstairs over the funeral home their dad owned, I never cared for that but I think living in a jail might be worse...

  8. If it were used as a jailhouse today, it'd almost make want to commit a crime. Love the architecture.

What a beautiful building, so many pretty details. No, it does not look like jail at all. Happy weekend to you!

  10. I love the architecture! However, I don't think I would be brave enough to share my abode with prisoners. I wouldn't sleep a wink!

  13. It almost looks like the builders were trying to disguise the true function of the building. It looks amazing.

  16. I love all details in these older buildings. It makes our modern buildings look boring.

  17. Well, it's not your average Jail. Maybe having such a pretty building made it up to the family for having to live in part of the jail. I bet it's an interesting museum to visit.

  20. I think that is second empire architecture, popular in the late 1800s. There was a residence in that style in the town we lived in when we first married. It was run down but intriguing. We returned to that town for a visit several years ago. At a coffee shop we met the current owner of that intriguing house. She and her late husband had done a beautiful job of restoration with meticulous attention to its original details. But no jail in back!
