I wish I had thought to take a photo without zooming in. It was so camouflaged I really almost missed it.
I could not get the snake to move. I tried rattling one of the tall grasses that went down right beside it but it paid no attention. It was about 8 ft down to it.
Well spotted! Not one of nature's more colourful creations but lovely to see even so.
ReplyDeleteGood thing you could NOT get it to move! You could have been bit! What a HUGE snake, even the girth is so wide around. It must have recently eaten. That was a good thing for you, too.
ReplyDeleteThat's the first snake I've seen that I thought looked beautiful. Well done!
ReplyDeleteGood shot. Frog bit on a snake---great camouflage

Oh my! You are so brave even trying to get it to move! I don't feel comfortable just looking at it in the photo.

ReplyDeleteTook me a few seconds to understand it was beside water - hence the common water snake. Good shot! YAM xx
Especially with all of the plant material on him--- Not easy to see.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteGreat find, they can move pretty fast.
It looks full of duckweed from the pond?
Enjoy your day! Wishing you a happy new week!
Bem camuflada.

I could see how you would almost miss it, glad you didn't step on it!
ReplyDeleteVery unusual that it didn't move most of those black snakes move really quickly when they see us hours are really fast and the minute we step anywhere near them or rattle anything they are gone. This one has the most perfect camouflage I've ever seen. He Blends right in I bet if you weren't on Zoom it would hardly show on the camera
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it look to be easily missed! And the pieces of green adds a pattern to its already exists.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots!
Nice shot of the snake!
ReplyDeleteOh, my! Great image and fascinating to see, but glad I'm not close to it.
ReplyDeleteGosh!!! Thank God you did not step on it! You are a "Brave Heart " to have tried to make it move!!
ReplyDeleteGreat images!!

ReplyDeleteThat looks like a pretty big one.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really big snake. Was this in your yard? It looks like a black rat snake. Wonderful detail of his scales.
ReplyDeleteOh, that is so very nicely shot.
ReplyDeleteGosh!
ReplyDeleteThat was well spotted.
All the best Jan
I've never seen a snake pick up natural camouflage like that. Hope he is still because he is healthy and lazy, not ill. Thanks for the lotus/lily distinction.
ReplyDeleteHe is blending in pretty good. I am not crazy about snakes so I think I might be happier with him not moving. Unless of course, he's blocking my path. I wouldn't want to have to step over him.
ReplyDeleteYikes! He is really camouflaged, isn't he? Glad you noticed him though. Cool photos, Rose.
