We were coming up 1st Street in Terre Haute the other day when Roger said, "What was that?"
Since we have seen eagles from that street more than once, I was in high hopes it was one of them. I went around the block and stopped without pulling out on 1st...when I zoomed in with my camera, this is what I saw. A Turkey Vulture. We have a lot of these guys around here.
I've seen eagles before but not turkey vultures, so I like the photo. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot too. Funny they never seem to get electrocuted. They always creep me out just a bit, because I then suspect that something dead is nearby.
ReplyDeleteI've grown to enjoy these big guys--- Sure they look funny, but... And to see this one with those very industrial insulators is fantastic. Death takes a holiday!
ReplyDeleteThey're everywhere, aren't they? Still they are good for our eco-system.
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of them around here too. In my opinion, they have to be one of the ugliest birds ever.
ReplyDeleteit is a blessing you have lots of these, they keep the roads clear and the woods free or rotted smells of dead critters... I often think it is not fair that God's Garbage Guys were created ugly, they should have been pretty since they do the nasty jobs of our worlds
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the Vultures. I see a lot of vultures here too, the hunters are leaving the deer carcass behind when they are hunting.
Have a happy day and a great week ahead.
Great shots! Poor things have such homely heads.
ReplyDeleteWooww...Son fantásticas Rose.
ReplyDeleteBuen martes. Cuídate.
Un abrazo.
That is a big bird. Have a good week and keep warm.
ReplyDeleteNot an eagle but great captures Rose!
ReplyDeleteExcellent close-ups of this vulture! I haven't seen any around here, but I am hoping to see some snowy owls soon.
ReplyDeleteWow !! He seems to doing a survey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful images !!
Devi :)))
We have a lot of these where I live also. Not the handsomest bird is it?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots of the vulture. I used to see these circling overhead when I was a kid on the farm. They perform a useful service.
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of them around here too. Ugly but beautiful when you watch them soar in the sky - so graceful.
ReplyDeleteThe Turkey Vulture looks a little homely when sitting, but oh the beauty they display in flight. You got some good shots of this one.
ReplyDeleteA few years ago we had to walk near a wake of turkey vultures who were chowing down on a seal. Now that was quite the sight.
ReplyDeleteI hope that he doesn't touch a live wire! A spectacular image. Great detail and color. They are definitely not the most attractive bird but they are interesting.
