American Bittern

 


I saw this bird twice a few years ago and have not seen one since.  At least I assume it was the same bird.

  1. Beautiful shot. I have only seen a bird like this a couple of times. they seem to be elusive .

  2. WOW!!!!!!!!! This is beyond cool, and I am SO impressed. Bitterns are masters of hiding, and are one of the hardest birds to spot. As a birdwatcher, I have never seen any. Fabulous catch!

    Bitterns the world over are known for their shyness... our UK version is actually endangered and highly protected now. I've never seen one! YAM xx

  5. Looks like a heron's weird little cousin. Or the Heron looks like the bittern's weird bigger cousin. Either way, a great catch!!
