Not frightened

Turkey Vultures never seem to be too easily frightened.  They are slow to fly, and when they do, they do so in a leisurely manner.

  1. Come to think of it, I have never seen a noticeably scared vulture. I think people are supposed to be afraid of THEM!

  2. Did you know that they pee on their legs. The pee is antibacterial, and kills any germs they have from eating dead creatures.

  3. They remind me of some character years ago in Tex Avery directed Warner Brothers and MGM cartoons--- uh, yup... Which way did he go? They may not be pretty, but they keep things cleaned up.

  4. Beautiful plumage on the wings (shame about the face).

  5. I've always thought they are the ugliest bird I have ever seen. When you see them soaring through the sky though, they look so graceful.

  9. Great photo of the vulture, Rose. I saw a couple last year across the street from my house, and they were feasting on squirrel. They are really unusual birds; not my favorite. ; )

  12. They do seem relaxed. Maybe they know that nobody wants to mess with them. Good shot.
