Best days are gone

This poor butterfly!  I felt sorry for it, but it did not need my sympathy.  It was having a fine time on the thistle.  I wonder if it even knew its wings were in such a tattered state.

  1. Oh GOSH! Looks like something took a big bite out of him...and lucky it was only his wings. Did it affect his flying? VERY pretty picture!

  3. Beautiful butterfly.
Maybe it was part of the mystery cloud seen here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/25/butterfly-cloud-monarch-butterflies_n_5878416.html?utm_hp_ref=green&ir=Green&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

  4. He seems determined to keep doing his thing. Nature is that was I suppose. Animals survive as long as they are capable to doing so.

  5. Lovely photo, even if the butterfly is tattered. I've seen them in pretty bad shape sometimes, but still they manage to fly. Although we've had overnight temps in the low 20s for several nights running, I still saw a butterfly and a dragonfly yesterday. I don't think they'll be around much longer.....
