This sits in Mansfield, Indiana and is owned by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. It is open during The Covered Bridge Festival which lasts about 10 days, this year from October 11-20.
When the Festival is on, there is not room to move. Every empty space is filled with booths or taken up with parking. It is located in Parke County, with almost every little town having something going on. We went to Mansfield once and I swore never again. We even know the back way to get there.
This is a beautiful old mill. There aren't too many around anymore. In Maryland, there is only one that still is in operation. These are beautiful images.
ReplyDeleteI especially like the shot from the water side. This post sparked memories of going to the grist mill with my mother when I was about five. She said the freshly ground corn meal was better than store bought. That was more than half a century ago, and the grist mill is long gone.
ReplyDeleteA pretty old mill and stream. I agree about the crowds.
ReplyDeleteThe second shot is really beautiful. But I can see why you don't want to return!

ReplyDeleteThat is a handsome building! (and knowing the backroads adds pleasure and adventure to life &*>) YAM xx
I liked the looks of it from the front but seeing the back with the bridge and the water looks even better. I wouldn't like it as much with crowds either.
ReplyDeleteIt is one of the prettiest mills I've seen. I would not like the crowds either.
ReplyDeleteGosto de ver estas construções em madeira e aproveito para desejar um bom fim-de-semana.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI like the second photo, with the water view. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy weekend!
I am in love with the last photo of the building and its surrounds. gorgeous. it is so very tall looking and right now I can't remember ever seeing a 3 story building like this... they sure keep it nice
ReplyDeleteOf course I have heard OF the Covered Bridge Festival but never even thought about going. I Googled the festival and the pictures remind me of a local festival in Plymouth Indiana....The Blueberry Festival. We used to go every year when Laurie was little but quit that about 25 years ago. Way too many people to navigate. I wonder if it still gets so packed with people. Terry definitely would not be able to walk through those crowds now. Heck, we never go to the Shipshewana Flea Market any more.
ReplyDeleteHey, have a great weekend.
xx, Carol
A handsome mill in a pretty setting. "Grist" is a word that hardly seems to be used in the UK apart from in the phrase "grist to the mill".
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures. I look forward to a time when I can branch out and discover photo opportunities in other states besides coastal Maine and eastern PA!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful old mill. Have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteNice images..The corn / wheat ground here must have been very tasty.
ReplyDeleteEven the second image is good.
Yes..one should avoid travel during festivals !
Devi :)
A beautiful old mill. Sadly many of these are now abandoned. Freindship
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. I wouldn't like all the crowds either.
ReplyDeleteWe have gotten so used to the quietness here at Happy Trails.
The Covered Bridge Festival sounds charming. Lovely shot of the Grist Mill.
