Ready to burst into bloom

I think it is kind of pretty...but wouldn't want to have to handle it at all...no wonder thistle thrives.

Hanging by a thread

I had to work quick to capture these before they blew away...

Who can resist them?

When I see these big old purple blooms, I just have to take a few shots. I have no will power to resist them.

Dragonfly

I am not sure why it is but I cannot seem to remember the names of things any more...I just looked this up and I think it is an Eastern Pondhawk. I do not know why I have to either look it up every time or wait for someone to identify it for me. Maybe one of these days, the names will begin to stick. I do believe this is only about the 3rd, maybe 4th dragonfly I have photographed this year.

From another time...

Maybe if you click this to enlarge it, you will get a little bit of the feeling I got looking at it in real life. There is just something about it that I really like.

Friday's fences variety....

It is time for Friday's Fences again, and I am going to show first a couple from Sunday...the one below was taken through a woven wire fence....the fence itself was probably four ft. high and the weeds were a solid bank behind it and peaking over the top...I had to take a picture or two.
We traveled on down the road...and came to this...it is someone's private bridge and I loved the look of it.
Then there is this last...it could go for Barn Charm, but going to use it here....I keep forgetting it.
In the thumbnail, the fence stood out to me...it was taken late and I have worked and worked trying to lighten the look without it look off-color...

Anyway, joining Friday's Fences with this post.

Dead head....

Its life is over...its job is done. Wonder how many seeds it spread?

By the creek....

Sunday on our drive, we saw several fall flowers...or I always consider them fall flowers. A sign that summer is winding down. This was about the only good shot of a dozen or two that I took...not sure what was wrong with me. Just couldn't seem to get a good shot and I knew it when I was taking them...partly cause the wind was blowing...but it was partly me.

Barn with crib

On a rambling drive yesterday, we were on our way home and I seen just the very top part of this shot...even though it was going the wrong way, I asked Roger to head that way. I couldn't believe it when I saw this.

I love these structures...I assume with all the ventilation that they are corn cribs...

So far, I think all the ones I have seen have been farther north...and all have been painted white.

It was with a nice, white barn...

Another view of St. Paul's Catholic Church

This is a view of a detail of the church I showed the other day. Sure doesn't look like it belongs in the midwest, does it?

From a recent drive....

This is from some where here in Indiana...just cannot think of where for the life of me. I would have sworn it was from somewhere in Illinois but the photos from around it are from the day I took all those photos of old tools, etc at Patton's corner. We love wrap-around porches....even if it doesn't go all the way around the house. Some is better than none.

Just up the road.....

I almost forgot Barn Charm! I think this is more of corn crib, but I think Tricia will forgive me for posting it. It is just a few minutes up the road from us...not even sure if it takes 5 minutes to get there. This is the first time where there was half decent lighting for it...
So I took a variety...
and even converted the one to B&W!
I have just always liked this little building. And have taken a number of drive-bys.
These happen to be turn around and go back and stop photos, though.

From Illinois

I cannot remember the name of the little town this was in...it was just a small place. We stopped at a little diner there...we both got a grilled pork chop, which was really good. And Roger got an order of fried zucchini. Neither of us noticed the price...till we got the bill. I don't know what I expected...it was a big serving of the best fried zucchini we had ever had. It's cost--$1. We think about going back just for to have the fried zucchini.

Coneflowers, Pt 2

Aren't they so photogenic??? I just had to post a couple more.. The top shot makes me think of a wagonwheel....
And this last one...I just like all the coneflowers in one shot in different stages, different sizes.

From Illinois

When we going north on Route 1 in Illinois, I think as we were passing through Westville, I spotted this church...Roger took a detour off the main drag till I could take a few pics.

Friday's fence

I know these shots are not that different from each other but honestly, I couldn't decide which I liked the best so just showing both of them.
When we go to see Lorelei or go get her, we almost always cut through the country....there is a little community of about a dozen houses and this on the corner at the 4-way stop. I have meant to get a photo of it forever, but finally remembered the other day.
