First post for The Barn Collective!

This barn should have been paired with the second shot in the post below....as that is the crib that is shown here in front of the barn.
Thanks to Amy for starting a new barn meme:  The Barn Collective

Rubbish Tuesday post

How about something old for Rubbish Tuesday...
Maybe two old somethings...both taken down in southern Indiana...east of Madison.  On little winding roads that only had room for one car.

Best days are gone

This poor butterfly!  I felt sorry for it, but it did not need my sympathy.  It was having a fine time on the thistle.  I wonder if it even knew its wings were in such a tattered state.

Margie's Country Store in Madison, Indiana

While in Madison, we visited Margie's Country Store.  On ground level was a quilt shop, and it was just stuffed full.  Not real big, but what space there was, was jam packed.  And they were fun to visit with.  The basement was full of all kinds of goodies to decorate with.  There was so much it was hard to see it all.
And this is Delilah...she was the store cat...and made me feel right at home.

A couple birds....

While staying down at Madison, Indiana for a couple days, we went to the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge.  I have wanted to go there for the longest time, but think we could have chosen a better time to see things.  We only saw a few Great Blue Herons, and hawks.  One deer. I think a couple little turtles.  Oh, and we saw a few geese and a few little ducks from a distance.

One of the signs said that Bald Eagles and Ospreys can be seen there, but we were not so lucky.

However, on our way home, no more than half an hour from here we saw this:
Roger spotted it, and pointed it out to me...there was one little spot to pull completely off the road.  I was fumbling getting my camera out, and it just dove for something in this pond, or maybe at the edge of the pond...there are weeds/grass that grows around the edge and I could not see what it got.  It took off in a few seconds with nothing in its claws.  It circled back around and I snagged this shot, but it did not hang around long enough for me to get a good picture.  I still cannot believe we saw an osprey this close to home!

A not so tangled web--two versions

I was lucky enough to get to try photographing some spider webs.  This one reminds me of a wagon wheel for some reason.
I thought I would convert one to B&W.  I cannot choose which I like best...do you have a favorite?  If so, why do you like it best.

In a Hardee's parking lot

We stopped at Hardee's yesterday in Brazil, Indiana.  As we were leaving, we were going out the back of the parking lot and there was this guy/gal.  Not sure how to tell the difference.  Hardee's is right in town, and Brazil is NOT just a stop in the road.  It probably has a population of 10,000 at least.  But not sure.

Soon as it saw me, it came running.  And was just peeping so softly.  When I didn't have anything, it went around to Roger's side of the Rav.  I did not have a single thing to feed it.

Otto

He's such a handsome boy...though I do think I see some white chin whiskers appearing.  I don't remember if he was looking at Sarah or at Roger.  You can see the love in his eyes!

Not sure how much blogging I will be doing the next few days.  I am hoping to get some done at night but we shall see.

They are a good pair.  Have you ever seen a prettier little face than these?

Something old, something new

A photograph from Tennessee...converted to B&W.
Then this one from Saturday...I like the sky and I like the reflections.

Hoping I remember to link to Theresa's Good Fences

From the road

This is a scene from the drive to Spring Mill State Park.  It is south of Bloomington for sure, and maybe south of Bedford, but not sure.

Tin snips? Metal snips?

Not sure what these are called...I think of them as tin snips.  Saw them at the flea market over labor day.

Posting a bit early

Tomorrow Rubbish Tuesday meme opens...so am posting early.  Mainly because if I don't do it while thinking about it, I am apt to forget.  I forget what town we were passing through yesterday when I just caught this glimpse of this truck.  If we had not been running late already due to a train blocking the road and a detour, I would have been tempted to have Roger turn around to go back for a good shot.
And this is from a the end of August...it is in an area we have drove through several times, but I don't remember ever seeing this old house.  I love the way the stone is used.  This is through the windshield...but we were stopped.   I don't know why I  did not get out and take the pictures.

A summer beauty

This particular day lily started blooming the first part of July, and this picture was taken in July.  But this particular day lily is just now starting to slow down its blooming.  It has sure provided a lot of beauty.

Illinois farm

I may have posted this before but if I did I cannot find it.  Besides, it is worth a double post to my eyes.  Taken last fall...a drive-by.  Or maybe I should say a drive towards.  For the photos I take, usually the ones that I am driving towards are the only ones I find that I can work with to get something decent.  Photos taken out the side view are most apt to be blurred beyond help, and/or have reflections in them.

For Good Fences...

First of all, a photo from just a week or two ago.  I must say, this was much more beautiful in real life than in this photo.
Then there is this one, taken earlier this summer.  It is on the highway between Rockville and Clinton here in Indiana.  It is a busy road, no place to pull over, a lot of times can't even slow down.  So this was taken through the windshield.

Yellow time begins...

Does anyone else notice how many flowers are yellow at the end of summer/beginning of autumn?  Everywhere you go, you can see these.

Our kitty

She was trying to help me take some photos of a couple of Roger's knives.  Finally, she just got up on the bench beside me and sat down.

Old but beautiful....

Saw these two at the end of August...really wonder about the history of the top one for sure.  If you look at the end, it looks like garage doors...bt the windows make me think someones old house.  But then there is that chimney!  Who would put a chimney there--be it house or garage of shop, it doesn't look like a good choice to me.
This old beauty doesn't look to have a long life left.  I wish I knew just where it was till I could keep an eye on it over the next few years.  I think this was the first time we had ever ran across it.

Poke plant

I think the poke plant is just simply a pretty plant. If it comes up in my flower bed, I am just as apt to leave it as to not.

A little Fiesta

I love Fiestaware, and I did have a few pieces passed down through the family.  Though I love it, I don't collect it.  I am trying to get rid of things instead of bringing home more.

Monarch

This one was up at the swampy area north of here.  It was so windy, I was lucky to get this shot.  Believe it or not, I have seen just as many monarchs here at the house, if not more than normal.  But not other places.

For Good Fences...

I'm going to try to remember to enter these in Tex's Good Fences if I can remember.  The one above is from several years ago....
and this one is from a week or so ago.  It looks to have seen some bad weather, but I bet it will be standing a few years to come.
