Butterflies from the archives...

Again I am resorting to the archives.    These are from July 2010.

I definitely need to get some plants that attract butterflies.  I only see one very occasionally in the yard.  I guess they miss the patch of cone flowers I usually have.

The road through the swamp

The swamp area is on both sides of the road....take over two steps to either side and you are in the swamp.  This is one of my favorite places to go.  It is so quiet since we are down in a valley.   About the only thing we hear are nature sounds.

Green vine...

This was near the edge of the swamp...I know the name of it but for the life of me cannot say it.

Butterfly from another year...

I am not seeing very many butterflies this year...so am resorting to pulling from the archives.

Big gray barn

We saw this old beauty a few years ago... it may have been on Upper Peninsula of Michigan or in Wisconsin.

Gull

Seen a few years ago on one of the Great Lakes...Lake Michigan more than likely.

Approaching beauty

I hope this hibiscus survives the winter.  I had a red one before, but we had a bitter cold winter that it did not survive.  The color of this one seems to change with the light, but we sure love it.

Follow the leader...

It was kind of comical...they actually looked like they were playing follow the leader.  I would not want to go swimming in that, or even wading now!  But I probably would have when I was a kid.

What's a visit

What's a visit to the swamp area without a few shots of dragonflies.

I am pretty sure it is the same dragonfly in both photos.  Just compare the wings.

American bellflower...

There were several of these at the swamp area, but this was the best I could do.  It is a cropped photo.

A sign of the times...

We were at the swamp area for a few minutes today...it is always the first place I notice leaves turning.  A few of the trees were beginning to turn, but for some reason I can never get a good photo of them.

Old home

This is an older house on the north end of Terre Haute...it was built in 1848.

Bringing home the bacon....I mean cicado.

It worked and worked....

it was trying to take it under the porch.  It did not succeed.  But not for lack of effort.

From the archives...

An old log barn...I think from the Museum of Appalachia but I am not positive.  It is a photograph I scanned in.

Teasel

I don't remember exactly where I was when I photographed this a few years ago.  I don't remember ever seeing it before or after.

Dragonflies again...

I had to try one in monochrome...which is your favorite?

I really cannot say if this is two different dragonflies or the same one.  Seems like one will pic a spot it likes to sit and keep returning to that area.  So it may be the same in both photos.

Spun gold...

Either you will like this or you will wonder why in the world I posted such a picture.  I thought it glistened like gold in the evening light.

Visitors

I surprised to see these visitors on the one and only sunflower I have.

Hard at work...

I had totally forgot I had tried taking this with my phone till I saw another's shot of a pollinator hard at work.  I was surprised that this turned out so good.   To bad my cone flower is so damaged.  I am not sure what eats them.

Buttonbush....

I had never saw these bushes till a few years ago.

I find them fascinating.  They are just about always just out of my reach to touch.

Say cheese!

Even though I had my camera on a mono-pod I simply could not hold steady.  So, this is the best I could do.  This is not a cropped photo...

Wednesday, July 8, 2020

I had never heard of round barns till maybe 20-25 years ago.  Since then we have come across maybe 8 or 10.

I think I like this one better in B&W....

Damselfly...

I consider myself very lucky/blessed when I get a decent photo of a damselfly.

Smile!

Look at that big smile!  Do you see it?  I never tire of seeing dragonflies...

They are so close to the same maybe I am crazy giving three views.  Just wondered if you have a favorite.
