Another old barn...

This is another old barn at the farm shown in the previous two posts...notice the horses. They thought I was bringing them something, or coming to see them. They were very interested in me.
I wish they had been closer to the road, till I could have at least rubbed their velvety noses.

This has been my entry for the Bluff Area Daily Barn Charm meme...hope to see you there.

The farmhouse

This is the house that goes with the old farm....I don't know if it is as deserted as it appears. I see curtains, and there was a cat. However, there was no other signs of life.

Old barn

This is at the farm where the gate in the previous post was seen. Some one has been there since the snow, but the tracks were not fresh.

An open gate...

This was seen at an old farm in Illinois...it, along with everything else there has seen better days.

Family farm

We came across this farm today in our ramblings...imagine having a farm that has been in your family for well over a hundred years. I wonder if they have any old writings, records from those first years.
This trim is what first caught my eye. I guess it is all a little unique, but this really is like no other that I have seen.
Do you see the kitty in this picture? Enlarge it and look in the window...there s/he is laying on the back of a couch watching me.
This front porch is just magnificent in my opinion. I wonder if the people that live there ever have time to sit out there and enjoy it. It doesn't look very used to me.

And I had to add the overall view...I sure think it is a beauty!

Little houses all in a row

Every so often we pass a place where it is obvious that someone loves birds! I have yet to figure out the best way to photograph them.

I wonder what they would look like if they were each painted some nice, bright color?

Don't lean on me

I thought I would show this one for Tricia's Barn Charm meme...I do not know how it is still standing. It looks like you could push it down with one hand tied behind your back, so I do not know how it is still standing with the strong winds that races across the open land over there. It is another drive-by shot, as we were going north on Route 1 over in Illinois.

Please, if you happen across this for the first time, and if you have any barns in your blog, please go to Tricia's Bluff Area Daily Barn Charm and link to it till we can all see it.

Don't you love this one?

Of all the knives my husband has made, this is probably my favorite one....I don't usually like bigger knives but I sure like this one. Most would probably consider it normal size...it is made for one of his friends/fellow retirees. His friend supplied the antler/horn for the handle. We don't know what it is from. He picked it up somewhere in his travels.
It was a lot rougher before my husband worked the handles. The bit of brass on the butt of the knife is an added touch that just sets the knife off in my opinion.
I really like this view because it shows the handle to advantage....

Snowy woods

Wonder if this is the snowy woods Robert Frost speaks of? Or at least similar to the ones he talks about in this poem:

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep

A refreshing view

I am so ready for spring....ready for summmer rains instead of winter snow. I thought I would repeat this picture...it is just one of my favorites from the strip pits.

Snowy view of West Union covered bridge....

Remember the sign I posted for my brother...well, it isn't far from this bridge. It was taken January 11....this is also where we saw 4 eagles.

Land of Lincoln sunset

These are drive-by shots taken Sunday while flying down the highway at 60 mph. I don't know why, but when I am tired and it even starts to get dark, I will feel like we are hurtling through space when we are driving down the road. Sometimes we are only going 50 mph and I feel like that. On the other hand, if it were daytime, we could be going 75 mph, and I would not have that sensation.
I am not sure I want to know what that says about me mentally....actually I am pretty positive I don't want to know.

Anyway, I still think these are spectacular views....

On the way to Sarah's house

I cannot count the number of times I have passed this barn...it is on US 40, sometimes known as the National Road. This is just a drive-by shot...seems like we are always in a hurry when going over to Sarah's and too tired on the way home to fool with taking time to stop for a good photograph. So, I thought I might as well show this.

I am planning on linking to Tricia's Barn Charm meme...check it out for more wonderful barns. Or if you have one of your own, please join.

A snowy day

Last week, we managed to take a drive....it snowed the entire time we were out. Sometimes so hard I did not want to have my camera out in it. However, I did open the window to take photos...even for this one I took from inside the truck even though it wasn't snowing too hard.

A sign for my brother Neal....

We did manage one drive in all the snow we have had...we had passed this sign before but I had never caught enough of it for it to grab my attention. This day the part about the weather station caught my eye...Roger backed up. When I seen it, I knew I would post it for my brother, Neal. I just hope he stops by to see it.
