Photoshoot....

Just a few shots...

of this long-legged Great Blue Heron.

Actually I am not sure if it is the same one or not...and these were just taken this afternoon...the first two are of the same GBH,

The Great Blue Herons were flying around everywhere over the lake, and that first had landed on the water...as if it expected it to be shallow water.  It quickly flew up and over and landed on this.

I have never seen Great Blue Herons land in deep water before...there were at least 3 or 4 that we saw do this...they would land and quickly fly up and away.  It really surprised me how easily they seemed to lift up from the water.  I so wish I had thought to take a video of it.

Great pictures!! We have actually had a Blue Heron land on our small pond twice in the past couple of years. At least that I know of. We scared the off quickly in fear that my fish would go along too...in their mouth!

Rose, these are awesome pictures of the Great Blue Heron. Another blog friend of mine just saw one flying on the road that she was driving on. She says the Blue Heron has always been a good sign to her whenever she sees one. It's such a grand bird, but I'm wondering why they call it the Blue Heron, any idea? They have such thin long legs like the flamingo. : )

Wow - what an amazing experience - I've never seen them land in the water unless it was shallow - their radar must have been off today. Great shots of them on the railing.
