Profile


 I don't care how many times I see Great Blue Herons in trees, they will never feel like they belong there.  And I even know where a rookery is...I know they do.  They just seem so ungangly.

I like the composition of this picture. The heron seems to belong there even if it doesn’t in real life.

I share that feeling! We've seen them standing in trees, but it never looks right.

I like seeing them in trees actually. When they are on the ground, wading in water, they are so still they remind me of flamingo yard art.

I've often thought similar thoughts myself. Our Grey Herons also sometimes stand on rooftops where they look similarly out of place (I think they're on the look out for unnetted goldfish ponds). We also have a small population of Egyptian Geese in England - they nest in trees and look very comical when perched up there.

there long legs make them look awkward and this one looks like it could easily fall off. it is rare to see them in trees, but I have seen a few

I agree about seeing the large herons in trees. How lovely this silhouette is. Herons are one of my most favorite birds.

I agree, they look out of place. Here at the lake there are many. One day I counted 12 or 13 on the beach together.

That is really a pretty photo. It truly spoke to me. They have a funny long neck. I have a blog friend who sees them all the time on her hikes.
