We always called them buzzards...


When I was a kid we always just called the Turkey Vulture a buzzard.  There were never near as many where I grew up as there is here.

I used to call them Buzzards, too! Until this year when I finally Googled the difference between Vultures & Buzzards. Buzzards are actually hawks!

Really to be more specific, Buzzards are large birds of prey. They hunt for prey to eat, where Vultures eat only dead things.

Great in-flight photo. We don't have Turkey Vultures in the UK, but we do have Buzzards - a totally different bird of prey.

I've learned to like these guys! They're kind of goofy, but they provide a valuable service. And their "mask" makes them look like a swashbuckler.

This vulture looks better than the ones I see near me. They hang out in a tree not far from me and look intimidating. Have a wonderful day.

Great in flight photo Rose.
We have lots of vultures around our area. They really do a great service to cleaning up the carcasses.

I always call them turkey buzzards but won't any more!!!
There are a lot of them around here. I love to watch then soar, so graceful in flight.

I never saw a buzzard growing up except on TV. We see them here sitting on light poles along the streets. This is a great photo caught in flight! Wow!

We don't have buzzards around here. We DO have vultures. They can be a bit of a nuisance but, well, that's nature.
