Splish-Splash!

This is the Great Blue Heron I showed a few days ago...it is cropped quite a bit to get this version of the shot. As I crept around the boardwalk trying to get close to it, I could not help but think of something Roger read somewhere a few years ago. Some photographer was photographing one, got to close to it, and it came after him. He held out his hand, and the heron drove his beak through the photographer's hand. That is painful just to think about.

that's an awesome shot. i can't imagine the pain that shot through his hand when that heron did that. it reminds me to be respectful of all the wildlife i photograph. hope all is well.

There's quite a few animals I'm not too concerned about but birds and beaks is something I have a healthy respect for. Birds are fast and beaks are hard. Helping rescue a pelican from a tangle of fish line one time, I learned that lesson well. Great action shot you have here.

i am happy to say this photographer has enough sense to not hold my handout to a wild bird of any kind. i love the shot, it's great. we just had an idiot tour guide in the everglades, that was showing off feeding marshmallows to a gator for the 6 tourist on his air boat. the gator bit his hand off, they had to kill the gator, remove the hand and fly the idiot guide and his hand to Miami to get it put back on. he now faces a 500 dollar fine for feeding the gator. in florida it is agains the law to feed them.

Wonderful action shot!

Excellent lesson learned and thanks for sharing that important reminder to not get too close to *any* wildlife.
