At first I thought this might be a Black Vulture, but the more I look at it and compare to other pics of Black Vultures, the more I think it is a young Turkey Vulture. One of the main reason is because of the big nostril. I think you can see it if you expand the view.

I agree--- IT seems like there are more of them here than I recall seeing in years past. Maybe they know something we don't know....
Great excitement here as a Bearded Vulture or Lammergeier has decided to pay a visit to these shores. It should be living in Europe but seems to be hopelessly lost. It's vanished again at the moment but I hope it'll pass this way on its travels.
I don't know one vulture from another. They do have the ugliest heads though. He's giving you quite a pose there.
A hint of red...I'd say turkey vulture also. May be juvenile?

You are correct, I believe Rose - for the feathers on this bird are also more to the brown velvet than the glossy black - another defining feature! YAM xx

I think you're right. Most definitely a juvenile whatever it is but I think your guess is right. And now that I have seen this vulture I just realized it's been months in fact 7-8 months since we saw a vulture now that's a scary thought
We have many, many of these here. Definitely a turkey vulture.

A great portrait of this interesting bird. I was watching some turkey vultures the other day flying way up in the sky. They were amazingly high.

I will accept your identification because of my ignorance. His backward look might mean he has spotted you and is about to take off.
I'm no expert but it seems most here say Turkey Vulture.
