We have them here--- It's surprising how loud their calls can be. Great picture.
I used to get a lot of these in my back yard when I had feeders out. I like to listen to them.
Mourning Doves are so sweet, they seem really shy around here.

for many years I thought it was morning not mourning dove. i love there sound and always heard it early morning. mourning fits there sounds and they are one of my favorite bird songs

That is one pretty photo of the Mourning Dove, Rose. I see them all the time in my neighborhood, and hear them cooooing every day. They even land on my lawn to take a rest. They are really big here in the mountains, and I love them. : )

Rose, I forgot to answer your question.....No, I didn't have to worry about evacuating because of the fires. There are many of them in Calif. right now, and the big one is more contained since I wrote the post. One was about half hour from me, but the firefighters have been working on them constantly. I'm so thankful for them. And I keep praying, which is most important. We get the smoky air sometimes depending on the winds shifting. But lately, the air quality has been Ok. Thank you for asking, Rose. : )

We have many of these here. Their song is so mournful. Beautiful close up
We don't have those, but we do have Collared Doves. They first arrived here in the 1950s amid much excitement; after 70 years their repetitive three-note "song" is beginning to lose its charm!
I usually see them on the ground under my feeders. Pretty shot.
I like these birds. :)
Although these birds are not brightly colored, I think they are beautiful .
A beautiful portrait with lovely color. I love the background! I was reading up on Mourning Doves recently. A pair can have up to six broods in a year and each brood usually consist of two babies. More than 20 million are shot annually for game or meat. I have three pair that regularly visit my bird feeder.
