Another shot from Illinois...as you can see the building cannot be classified as big...

and one can definitely say it has seen better days. But what puzzles me is the way the roof is made...does anyone have any idea why it is built with those sections sticking up?

I would guess ventilation for something, but don't know what. Interesting old building.
I agree with Mary that the sections sticking up are likely air vents.
The barn is interesting the way it's falling apart.
At first I thought about ventilation, but it looks as if the sides are covered, so I'm not sure how they would improve air circulation. So it's a mystery to me. But it is an interesting old building.
I was thinking air vents too. It's amazing to see the pattern of boards will remaining. Why the open, unconnected boards here and there is a mystery. Nice shot.
Maybe they're solar panels? ;-)
You have similar tastes photographically to mine...love old falling-down buildings. I took a bunch of these kinds of photos in Colorado which I'll be posting on our Colorado blog:

Have a great week, Rose!
Ditto here on thinking it's some sort of ventilation. It sure has seen better days...how sad.
I wonder if they were skylights at one time.
Ventilation would be my guess too. That is a really neat old barn.
Mike thinks this was a corn crib and those are where they put the corn in at the top.
