Who is watching who?

This butterfly was very skittish...it several miles away from all the ones on the milkweeds. I do think it is gorgeous.

More butterflies

Another butterfly showing above that has seen better days....
and I LOVE those two at the top of the above photo....
and the one here--the smaller one--I chased it around all over trying to get a good photo. It was having a time in the wind. It is the one whose wings rippled like a flag blowing in the wind. When I say I chased it around, I am not saying it was trying to get away from me. It was trying to find a place the wind didn't hit so hard. I don't know what kind he is, and will try to find out later. But for right now I am just going to get this ready to post. I will try to think and add any info about it to the comment section.

Tiger Swallowtail

The wind part of the time just flatten this butterfly against the flowers...it seemed to me that the shorter milkweed plants were not quite as bad as the others. Or if the butterflies hung on the bottom of the flower, the wind did not seem to hender them quite as much.
This poor butterfly has seen better days, but he is still a beauty.

More from Old Mill Dam...

This is part of the remains of the old mill built by Abraham Markle in 1917. Again, I love the rock work...there is just something about it that is so beautiful!
I would love to see this work when it was in progress, just to see how it was done.

On a sunny afternoon

I just love rock walls, and this is no exception. Even if it isn't very long. And I think the house is so inviting..it is a huge old house...looks like it would be cool no matter what the weather outside. When it was first built, I bet it was really hard to heat!

Almost the same

This is an Illinois sunset...straight out of the camera except for resizing the image.
I didn't know which view to post, so I am just posting both.

Windows....

These windows are from the post I did a few days ago on my other blog. I would love to know how old these are.

I couldn't resist this...

I ran across this the other day...it is one I scanned in from a slide. Velvia slide film I would bet. I loved that stuff...it always gave the picture a warm glow and seemed more real to life to me. I am not sure what year this was taken in, nor even where it was taken, but I think in Parke County here in Indiana.

I am done hoping that we have an extended fall this year...I can never get enough of autumn days. Even with the bit of sadness that comes with them...the knowing that a lot of things are at end...there is such beauty to be found at that time. And it seems to me that there is a certain slowness to time in autumn.

Aliens?

Roger noticed these just a split second before I did...they remind me of aliens in an alien land.

Two for one

Maybe I should have just used one dragonfly per day, but thought I might as well post them in a couple posts.
Be sure and enlarge the top one...my photos on here almost all enlarge...anyway, enlarge it and look. It almost looks like it has a smiley face.

Triple play

I finally got to take a few shots of dragonflies yesterday....
so thought I would show these three first.
We were on a little country road...it was a dirt road so narrow it would have been hard to pass anyone. You know, one of those where you have to find a place to pull over to let the other car pass.

It's been awhile/sepia scenes

It has been a long, long time since I joined Sepia Scenes....I thought this barn looked so good in sepia I though I would try to join one more time. IF I can remember to sign in after while. If not, you can still click on the link below to sign up yourself, or if you just want to find links to more sepia shots.

I did include a copy of the original. This was taken in the middle of the day so parts are washed out, but I still liked the vine-covered barn so much I wanted to show it anyway.

Pink explosions

I took these the other day, and had the snow post ready to go before I thought of these. So I went ahead did it.
I think these things are just gorgeous...

Lonely, silent sentinel

Since I didn't have much in the way of new photos, I thought I would show photos on both blogs of what the weather was just a few months ago. This was taken in January of this year.

The Mamas and the Papas

It has been almost a week since I did a post about the cardinals on my other blog...I wondered if they would actually stay or if the cats would scare them away. Well, I want to tell you that they are still here. If they did not scold the cats and us so much, the cats would not notice them. Roger even feels like the male sits and stares and fusses at him through the window. They even come around to the back of the house to fuss at us still.

The female looks a little bit the worse for wear...if you don't see her just right she appears to have no top-knot...but she does. To me she looks like a bedraggled mom...she looks totally worn out. We are constantly herding cats inside when we see them out there...just because the birds won't rest at all when one is out there.

Under a prairie sky

I am beginning to get quite a collection of photos of this farm over in Illinois...I wonder if the owners have any idea?

This was Thursday afternoon...about an hour after we got home, it rained so hard. Our garden was one big puddle...and puddles stood everywhere for hours afterwards.

We passed this home a few weeks ago...I just love that red roof. Love the red fineals...at least I think that is what you would call them...there on the railing.
And I love the red trim on that door. But I think most of all, I just love the dog laying there on his porch, watching the world go by.
